David Draut, literary scolar from Luxemburg, studied the relation of nature and technology in the science fiction works of the Steinmüllers. He found their visions ambivalent and conflicting. The doctoral thesis Zwiespältige Zukunftsvisionen: Das Autorenpaar Steinmüller und die ostdeutsche utopische Science Fiction (Ambiguous Future Visions.
